FAQ
How long will I wait before my first appointment?

All new referrals are assessed by Dr Meniawy and an appointment date is made according to the clinical problem and urgency for review. We aim to appoint urgent referrals within one week, and routine referrals within 2-3 weeks. If you have questions or concerns about the timing your review, please contact our practice.

What can I expect at my first appointment?
We will discuss with you the history of your condition, perform a physical examination, and go through relevant tests and procedures that have been performed or that may be needed. We will then discuss the diagnosis, staging, and outline and explain the proposed management plan.

Can I bring a family member or support person to my appointments?
You are encouraged to bring along a support person to your appointments (especially the first appointment), as it often helps with understanding the information provided and discussed during the consult, and provides valuable emotional support.

If intra-venous treatment is recommended, where is it administered?
Intra-venous treatment is usually given at the Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer at St John of God Subiaco Hospital, located within 200m from our practice. Most treatments are given during a day admission, and can take between 30min and several hours depending the treatment prescribed.

What are the costs of the drugs prescribed?
Most drugs prescribed are covered by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), and therefore have no out-of-pocket costs. However, in some cases newer drugs may be available that are not covered by the PBS. If non-PBS medication is considered, this will be discussed with your doctor and a cost estimate can be provided.
